Dear Members and friends of STC:

Welcome to 2013!
Hope all of you and your families have a successful year and make lots of great memories together. The Savannah Traffic Club’s board members have already started planning events for the New Year. Your attendants to these educational& social events are what fund the organization. I’m proud to say that last year, with your help; the Savannah Traffic Club raised over $10,000.00 and was able to meet all of our goals. Five deserving students within the Georgia Southern Logistics program received scholarships with the money. The additional funds went to local charities such as the Ronald McDonald house, Second Harvest Food Bank, the new MLET program and others. MELT stands for Maritime Logistics Education Taskforce and has launched a new internship with the Savannah Chatham Public School System for 2013. MLET will focuses on implementing a new model of teaching and learning through the use of internships, job shadowing, and apprenticeships. This program is funded by Savannah Traffic Club and other local logistics professionals. The mission is the reach, educate, and grow the current and future workforce of our logistics and maritime industry. It’s also a part of the Governor’s “Go Build Georgia”initiative.

News Release: ILA Strike has been averted for 30 days. The ILA and the USMX have agreed to an extension of the current contract for an additional 30 days, averting a port strike until 28 January 2013.

Upcoming events: The STC events will be posted at www.savannahtrafficclub.orgas the dates are confirmed. You will also receive emails from the secretary as friendly reminders. This year the website will allow you to pay for upcoming events with printable receipts at your convenience. The website stays updated with Job Opportunities, Useful Links, Photos, Contact Information, and News so check it often along with the Savannah Traffic Club facebook page.

Maritime After Hours event: Let’s start the New Year off right by attending the Maritime after Hours on January 9, 2013. As you know, traditionally the date would be the 1stWednesday of the month; however, since most of you were recovering for New Years Day festivities, the date was changed. It will held at “Spanky’s” on River Street and they are excited to have us back. You will receive outrageous drink specials and an unbelievable spread of delicious food to be enjoyed. (5:15pm – Until)

The New Year Challenge: Last year I asked you to eat and live healthy. You probably noticed that our events served healthy food for your benefit. Hope you at least tried to on your own as well!! This year I’m asking you to do something you’ve never done before. For example: I’ve registered for an Ironman triathlon in Louisville, KY during August. Think about something you’ve always wanted to do and “Just Do It” in 2013!!!! Jed Young President The Savannah Traffic Club
